TomD training started out in 1980, as a service provided by FOS (Fibre Optic Systems), a division of ATC (now CBI cabling).
After a major shake up, in 2002 ATC decided to concentrate on the core business of cable making. The training section was sold off and became TomD Training. Over the years TomD training has trained many students from both the private and government institutions, including:
Dept. of Water Affairs and Forestry
National Intelligence
ESCOM
SA Navy
Gold mines
Collieries
Sasol
and many others.
TomD Training has as a vision, the improvement of the performance of technicians employed in the optical fibre industry. We take the student through the technology. This will give the student an understanding of how fibre is made, how it works, and how it is incorporated into the cables.
The courses also provide:
1) In depth training on testing of installed cabling, using both OTDR and Light Source and Power Meter methods.
2) Splicing by means of fusion or mechanical splicing methods.
3) Termination of cables by means of direct termination or the use of splicing and tails.
4) Hands on practical training.
5) Written examinations
6) Students who pass the course are issued with a certificate
